London Backs is a Consultant led service based at the Princess Grace Hospital and aims to provide an integrated approach to patients with back or neck pain. Please see the services section for more details on the medical services we offer. At the Princess Grace Hospital, we are part of the Spinal Surgery Unit and the Orthopaedic Centre. We also provide services for the Urgent Care Centre.

lbjrjMr Jonathan R Johnson

Mr Jonathan R Johnson is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Spinal Surgery. He Qualified at Barts and trained in Trauma and Orthopaedics at UCH and the Westminster Hospitals. His Spinal training took place at UCH and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital with a European Fellowship in Gothenburg Sweden and Oslo Norway.

He was appointed to St.Mary’s Hospital and Medical School in 1984 and to the staff of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital as a Spine Surgeon in 1992. In 2003 he left to help set up and lead the spinal services at Ravenscourt Park Hospital part of the Hammersmith Hospitals Trust. He is a member of the Honorary Consulting Staff at King Edward the VII’s Hospital – Sister Agnes and on the staff of the Princess Grace Hospital

He is a member of the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS) and the North American Spine Society (NASS) He was a founder member of the European Spine Society (SSE) and a founder member and later President of The British Association of Spinal Surgeons. Mr Johnson was also recently in the first wave of doctors to be successfully revalidated by the General Medical Council (GMC).

Mr Johnson has now retired from clinical practice in order to concentrate on Medicolegal work. He retains his licence to practice with the General Medical Council (GMC) and continues to act as an expert adviser to the GMC and Royal Colleges. He has wide experience in medico legal work doing claimant and defendant cases as well as medical negligence cases pertaining to the spine.

reza_mobasheriMr Reza Mobasheri

Mr Reza Mobasheri is a full-time consultant orthopaedic spinal and trauma surgeon. He entered medicine in 1992 and trained at Guy & St. Thomas’ medical schools. He also obtained a degree in psychology and qualified in 1998. Having completed general surgical training in London & Surrey, Mr Mobasheri completed his orthopaedic training in South West London, including St. George’s hospital.

Having developed a spinal interest early in his career, he completed a 1 year fellowship in complex spinal surgery at the internationally renowned Krembil neuroscience centre in Toronto, Canada. He was appointed consultant at Imperial healthcare NHS trust in 2012. At Imperial, he co-runs the spinal service and is on the orthopaedic on-call rota with a significant involvement in treating patients admitted through the major trauma centre. He is also part of the Imperial vertebral compression fracture service and the Imperial spine referral pathway.

Mr Mobasheri provides assessment and spine care for a wide range of spinal conditions. He provides non-surgical and surgical treatment for patients with back and neck pain. Where necessary, he will also perform surgery on the neck and the lower back.
